Our Story

We’re just 3 girls who love cats.

Sasha Marsh

Sasha is the newest member to the “Cat Lovers Club”. It all started one day in April 2022. She was outside her home with her family when a tortoiseshell cat showed up. She gave her some noodles and rice and the cat kept coming back each day. A few months later, the cat who had since been named Lily, brought her only surviving kitten over for some food as well. He looked to be about 2 months old at the time. I felt so honored that she entrusted me with this beautiful orange boy. Soon enough, Sasha ended up with a tribe of cats coming to her house daily for food, water, and fun and she knew she had to make a difference in the lives of cats.

She has since started feeding even more cats in her South Florida area, providing TNR services for other community cats, as well as facilitating the adoption of many cats with the assistance of other cat rescues in South Florida, but she wanted to do more. And thus, the Spicy, Friendly, & More – Cat Spot was born.

Karla Picado

Karla started her cat journey back in 2012 when her husband brought home a 5 week old kitty. At the time, they had not a clue on how to care for her, but they did their research and did their best. They had her for 4 months until she unfortunately ran outside and got lost. They were devastated. Some time later, her husband found another kitten in a parking lot that looked just like the one that went missing. She was extremely sick and only 4 weeks old. They named her Grace. A family member brought another kitten into their lives, who they named Hope. She was 5 weeks old and also sick. They brought these babies back to health and are still with them today…plus 6 more!

During the pandemic in 2020, Karla started taking walks to get out of her apartment, as many people did. She came across a cat and started feeding. A few months later, she came in contact with the original feeder of this colony who asked if she could pick up an official feeding shift at this colony. She started feeding every Wednesday, but this was only the beginning. Gradually, she started picking up other feeding shifts. Little did she know she was being prepared to be the official caretaker of this colony. The original feeder stated that she would no longer be able to continue feeding at this location. This became her new mission. She started TNR and continued to feed as well as scheduling vet visits as needed. She was able to get many of them out of the streets and into their new lives with their furever families.

“Thank God for all the people He has placed in my life to help me continue to care for these angels.” - Karla

Yesenia Sanchez

While Yesenia has always had a deep love for all animals, it wasn’t until late 2007, early 2008 that her journey into the feline world truly began.

While picking up food for her Yorkie, Tinkerbell, at Beverly's Pet Center, she came across the most beautiful litter of Himalayan kittens. She was instantly smitten. She was 21 at the time and living with her parents. (Mom was very much not a cat person!) After weeks of convincing, Mom finally caved and that’s how Bella, her very first cat, came into her life. They had no idea how to care for a cat. It was all new to them, and definitely a bit chaotic at first. But that little fluffball completely changed Yesenia’s world. Bella showed her how different and special cats are, and how deeply they can love you once you earn their trust. She was the one who opened the door to this whole world, and Yesenia will always be grateful to her for that.

In the summer of 2009, she met a stray mama cat, Big Mama, with kittens, and that encounter opened her eyes to the world of rescue and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). That was the beginning of her passion for rescue and TNR. Since then, Yesenia has rescued, rehomed, spayed, and neutered countless cats. She’s faced heartbreak and loss, but also so much joy, healing, and love. These cats have changed her life, and she is forever grateful for every single one of them. She expresses that one of the biggest blessings in all of this has been the amazing community that came with it. The cat rescue world is full of people who care deeply, and she has built real, meaningful friendships through this work. She proudly wears the title CRAZY CAT LADY!

“For Bella, the one who started it all. Thank you for teaching me how to love your kind. I’ll never stop!” - Yesenia
